I want to buy a chop saw or cut off saw however you say it and would like to get some advice as to which one I should buy and where. I will be using it for home use for building some trailers. I"ll be cutting square tubing, C channel, steel.

I like the milwaukee 6176-20 ($169.00)because of the rock solid cast iron base. Would prefer a D handle but could live with the one that comes with the tool.

I like the Makita 2414B ($159.00) I would consider a porter cable or bosch but haven"t seen one at any store. I have and like Dewalt tools but don"t want a Dewalt chop saw because of the hold down cam clamp to hold different angles. I read some bad reviews on them. I"d be interested in hearing your input on which saw I should buy. Thanks in advance. dave

I'm on my second HF chop saw. Only paid $50 for it on sale. And that's about what it's worth. I just picked up a Taiwan small bandsaw for $50, it is a much better machine than a chop saw. No sparks, no hot metal and the mess stays in one small pile. I haven't used my chop saw since I got the band saw. You set it to cut and walk away while it's working. I would definetly consider a band saw before buying a chop saw.

Mine is a Skil and bought it from HF cheap. Been awhile so forgot price, just know it was well below local retailers prices.

Have had 0 problems with it and love it. Cuts 45 angles if you want.

Don't overlook the Rigid brand of tools. Rigid has been making tools (and cutting oil and things) for a long time but I think they just entered the electrical tool business (maybe not just never saw them). The drill I just bought from the orange box store is a hum dinger. Like it too.

I saw the ridgid chop saw and liked it as well. Has a nice D handle. I went to sears and looked at their craftsman chopsaw today. It has a heavy cast iron base, extra heavy duty adjustable miter fence with a nice tool less tightening lever to secure what ever angle you need. Shipping weight, 70lbs. I especially like the extra heavy duty miter assembly. I wonder if milwaukee is making this model. I normally buy major brands when it comes to tools. I am going to consider the craftsman. dave

The Milwaukee works great and at least pretends to be made in USA.
