Sears Craftsman again

I got a Craftsman laser Level for christmas- turned it on and it worked great-nice red line on the wall, looked at the two level vials to level the unit and found that one was dry. Drove 1.5 hrs back to the nearest Sears store. Opened up the replacement Level in the store(dispite the Salesmans dirty look) and found another dry vial.Then another, then another. Found 5 levels in a row with dry vials!!!! The Salesman grabs CLEARENCE stickers and slaps the clearence stickers on the Levels as I am sorting them.How can they sell Levels on clearence without Vials?? They appearently dont care about their customers at all! OK so I got the new Level home and put Batteries in it, guess what, yep-the Laser dont work.1.5 hr drive Back to the Sears store today..... ..

It's BS like this that I quit buying Craftsman power tools. All I buy now are Milwaukee power tools. We now have a good Milwaukee dealer in the area (2 3/4 miles away) and they stock most the common wear parts. Price wise Milwaukee is a little more, but once you use one... A worn out Milwaukee 6148 4 1/2" grinder will still work circles around a new "Sears best professional" 4 1/2" grinder. A new 6148 new is within 20 bucks of a Sears, so why buy a professional homeowner's tool, when for a little more you can buy the best?
Craftsman hand tools are ok, but SK keeps their fair market share in this area. Maybe Bob Villa can give Martha Stewart a deal on a Craftsman "professional" hacksaw.

milwaukee is the way to go. it will stand up to my abuse, and still work well. even though they are expensive

Sears went all China, so went to Milwaukee, Really liked there ReCharge Drills made in the US and there 110 Hammer Drill made in Germany. So my 20 year old Sears Circular Saw quit - Looked at the Milwaukee demo - Made in US - So I bought one home - cut the straps - Made in Mexico - They Refunded my $150

I suspect that the items that were marked "clearance" will be a "no return" kind of deal. Someone is going to end up holding the bag.

Thats awful!, instead of sending them back to the manufacturer because they are defective, they're trying to stick somebody with them, but chances are they are going to be getting them returned and have to send them back to the manufacturer anyway, so you'd figure they'd just take care of it now to keep customer satisfaction. That would sure turn me off from that store. I always liked Craftsmen tools, and thought they were all made in the USA, I guess I will be checking next time I'm in Sears.

So now potentially five more guys get to go through the same bad deal.Sears has always been a love/hate relationship with so many tool users.But with the 11/2 hrs drive I would be on the hate side this time.

Sears is no more than a high priced Harbor Freight! Most of the tools are made in China. I have stopped buying tools at Sears. As far as Kmart saving Sears that�s a joke since Kmart tools were always junk and customer service is no better. The only reason to keep Kmart around is to give competition to Wally Mart!

So where do you buy your tools?. Seems just about every brand out there is made overseas. So what does that leave you with, snap on?, I hope you have some mighty deep pockets for their stuff when just a 1/2" wratchet will set you back $100. I think maybe Husky is made here in the states, but offhand, thats all I can think of. Oh, where is Mac tools made?.

reread what I had wrote above, thats a 1/2" drive wratchet for $100, and thats for the cheapest one off snapon.com, and they want $130 for the most expensive one, didn't price impact wrenches and probably don't want to as I can just imagine what the prices are on those.

This is why K-Mart had to buy them out. The customer service at Sears is driving them out of business.
How good is that life time warranty on Craftsman tools going to be when there is no store to exchange them at.
Return it and stop somewhere and get you a good Strait-Line or Stanley.

John Stanley tools is one of the so called patriotic American companies that moved offshore to avoid paying taxes.I refuse to use a Stanley anything.Besides that they are crappy tools.

Well first off Stanley does not make there own laser levels. Stanley only puts their name on other peoples products. The laser levels sold under the Stanley name are made by CST/Berger. That�s Chicago Steel Tape/Berger. Now while they may make some stuff over seas or even use over seas junk to put it together they do have a big place in Watseka IL. That may seem like over seas to a southern boy like me but it is still the US.
Besides every one makes stuff over seas. The US has out priced it self because it goes for quality and companies what quantity because that�s what sells. You have to admit we now live in a low price throw away world.

No John What I meant was,I believe Stanley claims to be headquartered in Bermuda so they can say they are not an American company anymore and dont pay federal taxes.In turn causing you and I to pay higher federal taxes.It is a legal but unpatriotic move on their part[that American companies are doing to avoid taxes.]

Dr sportser: Businesses do not pay taxes. Whether they are in Bermuda or the US, all the taxes they are forced to COLLECT on behalf of the political class are paid by the consumers of their products.

I don't believe that is exactly true. Why many companies move overseas is to stop from paying US taxes on profits made overseas and taxes in the country of sales also. This does not exempt them from US taxes on US profits.
