Looks as if I might get a Victor tote-a-torch as a gift. The portability is great for me and I'm not in a production shop, this is to support my tractor restoration habit. Would there be any advantage to buying up to a mid range priced two-stage regulator setup, and getting the next size cylinders (up from the 20cf 02)? The Victor factory is 30 miles from me.

Thanks to Mark & TBone. I have my grandfather's oxywelder college textbook from 1932 and reading front to back. No important changes since then except for more on safety in the literature. Welding is a fine trade, and I have greater respect for now.

The bigger the acetylene tank, the bigger the torch tips that you can use. It is unsafe to draw down more than 1/5 of your acetylene per hour. Think about that when you're heating up a big piece of steel with a rosebud.

A 20 cubic foot oxygen tank is going to have you running down to the store a lot. Around here, the welding supply outfits do not keep very convenient hours.

Hi Red, The victor 100 is the finest torch ever built with 10ft of 1/4" hose makes a great combination with the rest of the hose a larger diameter as it's cheaper. For what you will use the torch for single stage regulators are just great. As far as the size of tanks the "B" Acetylene won't last very long. I carried refer equipment to the roof all the time to make repairs and they worked great there but not for even a small shop would I choose them. Get the largest clinders that "you" can easy handle.
