present day s-k quality

Well i think i am going to buy me a 47 piece 3/8 drive socket set. Short deep metric standard. this set has all my needs covered in one simple box. So I am wondering how is present day quality? How do they rank against craftsman and say sap-on? Would they be a good investment? Price is like 130$ So opinions please..

I bought a 1/4" drive set a little while back (1961) from a WEstern Auto store, and later bought a large S-K tool set and use almost every week and have only broke 2 sockets. Wouldn't have anything else. Buy the way the lg set cost a wopping 250.00. Have anice day.

I've got the 1/4 drive set, comparable to the one your looking at in 3/8 drive, and it's never given me any trouble. I work on heavy equipment so mine sees alot of hard use too. They have a lifetime warranty and, in my opinion, for the price are very good tools.

I have a full set of S&K tools, from 1/2 drive, 3/8 and 1/4 drive, plus all the wrenches and specialty tools. I bought my tools in 1971. I also have full set of Craftsman. I use the S&K for the rough work, have only broken a couple of 3/8 sockets in all the years. I have broke more Craftsman sockets, ratchets and end wrenches, than S&K. But I have noticed that the new S&K are not built as strong as the older ones. Would not trade my S&K for a set of Snap-on tools.

I just bought this set not too long ago.
I should start out by saying that I have not owned any other sk tools before this just snap-on and craftsman.

In am happy with this set. There is no comparsion between sk and snap-on, I would take my snap-on any day, But for the price sk seems good. I needed a second set to have at work so I got this one and kept my snap-on at home.

I don"t like craftsman ratchets at all. In fact I despise them. I have yet to find one that did not slip, bind or jump out of gear. I think the sk ratchet has as smother action than the craftsman.

The only thing I don"t like about buying sets is the sizes don"t start out the same for deep and shallow. This set"s shallow starts at 1/4, 6mm and the deep at 3/8, 10mm.

Other than that I like my USA made SK set.

As for myself, I buy NAPA branded hand tools. Same as Matco and Craftsman ( Made by Danahar Corp). Snap-On makes a very good tool, but for me, not worth the cost.

SK tools are nice, but not really offering anything better than Craftsman/NAPA/Matco hand tools.
