What is this welding rod?

I got some welding rod at an auction and on the rod it looks like it says: Comatron 211 AC-DC, it very dark grey almost black.
Someone told me it could be a cast iron rod. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If so, could you tell me any hints to using it.

Yes, indeed, that's Cast Iron rod. Had a welder friend of mine weld up a cracked wheel hub on my F14 with it. I'm a rank amateur, but it looked to me like he used it just like any other rod. Vee'd out the crack, drilled a stop hole at the end, and laid a bead in it. No pre-heat, no post-heat, no fooling around of any sort. Didn't notice what settings he used on the welder.

Weld has held just fine for over 5 years.
