I am making something from a bent ground stainless firearm cleaning rod. (No, I am not the one who bent it). I have a mig welder with 75%argon 25%Co2 gas, and some .030 ER308 stainless Mig wire. I know this is not the prefered gas for this wire. Will it work anyway? Anything I should watch out for? The rod is .288 in diameter. It will be a 'T' weld of rod to rod, and not a critical application.

Hi eeleater,

If not a certified weld then 75/25 will work ok for this application. I would add about 50a to the normal machine setting as you will only get cold lap welds at lower amps.

You can also use oxy/Acet with your .030 wire to weld the "T" on.

OA to weld SS? I have a torch, but had not thought about using it. Neutral flame I would assume. I just looked in a book that I have and they do not mention it at all.
