Power Washer Opinion

A lady gave me a power washer as a return for some favors. It was too big and too hard for her to start and she bought a smaller unit. Washer has no more than 250 hours total time. It is a 10 HP Techumseh Industrial-Commercial engine running an Annovi Rever RE 3500 psi pump. The carb is leaking but I got it running enough and it seems to work fine. Opinions on this configuration, please. Engine--pump? Problems. I've never heard much good about Techumseh but this one seems to run ok.

Hey guys, thanks for the thumbs up on the washer. Guess I should get it up to my standards and sell my lesser unit. Striping paint, yes, that is one thing I considered. It does seem to have a lot more 'kick' than my 2600 psi unit when I tried it on my shopside concrete work pad.

Well, if you really don't trust it, I could make arrangements to take it off your hands for a nominal fee!

I have an 8 horse Techumsa on my snow blower and the only trouble I've had is leaving gas in it when I put it away. Wide open throttle is the only way I run it and it seems perfectly happy.

3600 psi sounds like an awesome washer. You'll want to be a bit careful with finished surfaces. That kind of pressure should strip a lot of paint if you let it.

yuppies don"t change/check the oil and blow them up on regular basis with busted connecting rod, abandon them at the shop when they find out what good repair work costs

those motors just need some TLC, polish the journals and tweak/polish rough edge here/there, maybe even put some JB Weld where the rod went thru the block

motor then last real long time when I use them

If that pump can handle hot water from your home domestic service you will be shocked at the improvement in cleaning power. Info should be on the compay web site. Does this machine have a soap addition unit?

Raytasch:
Tecumseh engines are one of the best Amercian made engines on the market. They hold up for the longhaul with some care and proper maintenance, start easy, run good, we get a lot of old Troybilt tillers in with Tecumseh engines that are 15-20-25 years old and stat and run great. The drawback to a Tecumseh engine is the carb. The carb on these engines are a little more refined than the Briggs and Kohler carbs, so if you leave any gas in the carb to go bad, you are asking for problems. If you run a good stabilizer, like Sea Foam, and start it every other month, this will be the best little engine you ever had for durability.

This is true, we ran a lawn and garden business for several years and the Tecumseh engines "in my opinion" were superior to the B&S engines. If you keep the oil, and the air filter clean using a good stablizer they will last a long,long time.

Ray, Sounds like you got a good deal to me. The only complaints i ever heard about Techumseh was from my dad who used to have a small side buisness of fixing small engines and his only complaint was that they were a bit harder to work on. I never took the time to ask him why but i just assumed it was a slightly differnt set up and a bit more sensetive to adjustments.

just my small bit of knowledge on the topic.

P.S. I've found that even a bad pressure washer is more useful than a garden hose.

Don't know anything aobut the pump, but Tecumseh I-C engine will give good service if you give it reasonable care. Regular oil changes, etc. Used an 8 horse one on a rear tine tiller long eoguh to wear out 2 sets of tines before I gave it to an Uncle due to my no longer being able to handle it. He has worn out another set, and still no problem with the engine.

Hey Ray - I've got one on a power generator. The only thing that I've found is that you need to let the carb starve for gas to shut it down. Not sure why but when I didn't , I had to take the carb apart to get it to run again. Never happens on my briggs and stratton engines, beats me why , but that is my experience. Hopefully helpful . The only fault I ever found with a Tecumseh was that they just didn't last as long. Up until the point where it was worn out it was every bit good as anything else. Hey! the power washer is free, use it.

Sounds like you got a heck of a deal. I don't know much about small engines, other than I prefer Hondas, but we used to use an Annovi Reverberi pressure washer at a rental yard I worked at about 11 years ago. We used the snot out of it and it never gave a minute's trouble.

Back in my mini bike,go-kart days kids swore by the Briggs&Strattons.NOw from what I hear tecums. quality is way up and is considered the superior brand.I dont remember any kid doing an oil change in any motor.Those Techumsa motors would die horrible deaths of blasted parts and filthy black oil splattered everywhere.But if its free its for me.
