Metal Halide is a type of bulb, most of the new ones we put up now seem to be metal halide, but still do high pressure sodium here and there, high pressure sodium, low pressure sodium, metal halide, mercury vapor, metal halide gives off a more "white" light, high pressure sodium is an orange tint to it.. Since these type of fixtures do not come on right away when they are turned on they have a restrike option on some models, just another light built into it that will give some light off when it's turned on before the main lamp is ready to fire. 277 volts is a 3 phase deal, you know, they have 480 volts three phase line to line, and 277 volts to ground, or neutral, so you can run the big motor loads on 480 volts and the lighting on 277, lots of good reasons to do it if you have a 277/480 Wye system which you don't have. But when you get Hi-bay light fixtures most of them have a multi voltage ballast if you order them that way, so you can run them at 120v,208v,240v,277v,and some at 480v,but not many, you most likely have 120/240v single phase, then when you get to small commercial industrual places you see a 120/208v Wye system, then when they start to have motors or an old existing service it can be a 120/240v Delta with a high leg, then it's 277/480v Wye system again, even had some equipment from Europe that required a 220/380v Wye system, and some from Canada that were 575 v. I would just make sure that the any fixtures that you get are enclosed so that if a bulb fails and explodes or cracks in the fixture the hot fragments will not fall down and start a fire, lots of options when you order these if you get them from an electrical supplier, but they won't be cheep either, but then again a couple big ones will throw off a lot of light to
