O.T. 1995 Ford F-150

I have a 95 Ford F-150 With the small V-8 (5.0 I think) any way if its cold out or if I don't run it for a few days, When I start it. It's starts to make a louid whisling noise,Intill it's gets warmed up. I don't think it's the power steering or the serpentine belt. Any body know what could be causing the noise. Thanks Dave F.

have the same problem, it turned out to be just what rusyfarmall said it was
the fan blade clutch/theres a brief period when its really cold and the silicone is not visious enough and it glues the clutch hub and fan together (locking it up )as extreme heat will and pushes large amounts of air causeing a whistle

Might want to check the exhaust system over. Sometime they will make noises and soon as system gets the least bit warm the noise stops.

I know I probably am out in left field somewhere, but on the old gas engines, if it had an intake manifold leak, it would make a loud whistling noise. but, you could have a water pump brg out, alternator bearings out. I would take off the belt and see if the noise is still there. Don't know if an injector o ring leaking will cause this or not, but if it is a leaking gasket, it will need immediate attention or face some serious damage.

Crack the throttle open, boost engine RPM to 2500 or so. If the noise gets louder, it is probably a belt-driven accessory. If the noise goes away, it may be the idle air control bypassing air around the throttle blade for fast idle.

For extra credit, if you have some time some cold morning, and the noise appears, shut the engine down, use a breaker bar to relieve tension from the serpentine belt adjuster, remove the belt, and start the engine. If the noise is gone, it is definitely associated with the belt-driven accessories. If the noise continues, it lies elsewhere. There is no problem running without the belt for BRIEF periods (< 1 minute).

Most likely it's the cooling fan for the radiator, probably nothing to worry about, but keep your ear tuned to it in case it gets worse.

Could be the alternator. I have a Taurus that does the same thing somedays. It"s intermittent but more often when it"s cold out. Drives me nuts some days but the idiot light isn"t on so I keep driving it.
