Have a Porta heat 55, 55,000 btu oiled fired heater made by Gilson brothers co. Plymounth, Wisconsin which are no longer in business. This heater is like a Reddy heater, I was wondering where I can order parts reasonably, The flame pulsates, I have good clean fuel, I think its the nozzle or the pump. Thanks Dave

I have a torpedo heater and when I need parts I call 1-800-362-6951 "Portable Heater Parts". They have the special tools for troubleshooting these heaters (Like the pressure gauge to ensure the oil is fed at the right pressure and the fuel filter to make sure the fuel flow is good).

No I don't work for them.

Good Luck!

Hi Dave, Nozzles and pumps are pretty common and interchangeable between mfg. brands as there's not many mfg of the parts. Try Johnstone Supply, WW Graingers, refrigeration supply houses.

I wish I could help you troubleshoot the system but this isn't the correct form for such, but you are on the right track. You might want to make sure everything is "clean" before you start buying parts.

Your heater is definitely sucking air if it's puffing. Look on the outer pump cover for cracks. You may even be able to feel the air which is being expelled. I just repaired a 150,000 btu Koehring unit with exactly the same symptoms. I resurfaced the pump plate using a machined surface and 600 grit wet-or-dry paper (dry), repaired the cracked pump cover....and she belts out heat now like there's no tomorrow. The pressure at your nozzle is low, so you need to determine where the pressure drop is occuring..... ..... ..Wyatt Fawley
