Oil for Air Compressor

I just got an older model Brunner air compressor. There is no literature with it. Can anyone tell me what type of oil to put in it? I want to change the oil. Thanks for your help!

You can find "Compressor oil" at WalMart around the area where the compressors are.

I think Mobile One would be a safe bet, that is what I use.

Many new compressors are specifying synthetic oil. My Home Depor/Cambell-Hausfeld 7.5hp/80gal/2 stage called for Mobil One 5W-30.

Your compressor may be old but no reason to not use a good oil.

There are some synthetic compressor oils that are di-ester based, be aware you cannot use the plastic/polycarbonate bowls on filters and water seperators with this oil, good reason to use a mineral or synthetic motor oil. I think the di-ester oils are mostly intended for LARGE rotary screw type compressors, not your small piston type shop compressors however.

As far as my dad told me he said use regular 30 weight motor oil in the old blue compressor to keep her well oiled. I would hope hes right i mean he did work for emglo air compressors for 27 years so i think he picked up on a few things over the years.

I have used John Deere's Hy-Gard in mine for quite a few years now. I kind of figured if it was good enough to keep a $100,000 tractor running it would keep my old compressor oiled up.

I always get the compressor oil. Sears, TSC or about any auto store. But my manual says if none is available, use 20W non detergent oil. Guess 30 would be OK if it is kept in room temp.

In the past I always bought the regular Air compressor oil sold at auto stores and such. However, I just acquired a 10 year old NAPA (don't know who built it) 2 stage compressor and the original manual that came with it says to use "Premium" 30 Wt non-detergent oil.
