I'm looking for a midsized chainsaw for my Dad. I have a Husky 246 that's about 8 years old. It's a light wieght screamin machine that's been trouble free firewood saw. I was at mill's fleet and they now carry Husky 345's, 350's. I have heard that they cheapened them up and may not even make the smaller saws, (use other brands) anymore. Does anyone know the story or what models are homeowner Vs. professional? thanks

If your are looking for a new saw go to this saw forum and search what has been said about the models you are looking for. Alot of them guys on there know there stuff. Oh that site can be a problem too, it may cause the wanting and lusting for more saws. I go by madsaw on there. I have over 80 saws now. But, I still want more.

Hey you are not the only one! I have better than 38 McCulloch saws and still want more! AND- most all of them work when I have the time to fix them up. Jeffcat

look for "XL" behind the saw # = pro saw.

Don't know about husky but I'm agravated at my stihl
025 I bought at a pawn shop last year in like new condition. The rubber bushing the handle attaches to on the bottom keeps coming out if I pinch the bar and pull on it.
It happened twice today so I found a longer screw and a rubber backed washer and put it all the way through the bushing so it can't come out(I hope).
Going to go try it now.

Guess I'm a lucky guy. Between Dad and I've we've got 6 saws and haven't ever had to pay for any of them.
Dad's Echo fell off a truck in the road in front of his house. We called the police and then put up a sign "If you lost your saw, stop here" for 8 weeks, but nobody ever stopped.
My little Remington appeared in my storage trailer one day. My cousins had filled the gas tank with bar oil! Let it drip upside down for a day, put gas in and it runs great!
The Mac 10 was my grandfather's saw, Uncle Reg also had a Mac 10. Inheriting saws from old men is great because they've got almost no use.

I'm not even sure where the other two saws came from, but you put in a new plug, clean the air filter, sharpen the chain and burn all the carbon out of the exhaust and they work great.

the US Forest Service here in Mich. are using the Husqvarna saws. But like everything else they are starting to make low end and high end saws. You get what you pay for.

I been waiting three weeks for a repair part on my Sthil. The chain keeps coming off. I'm not sure if the replacement shroud will fix it.

Firewood is getting to be in short supply, it's my only heat at the farm.

I bought a Husky that is hard to start, seems to need a compression release. I use my Poulan saw most of the time. Alv

Just come across your comments about the 650...what a great saw.

Brought mine second hand in 1987 ..the year of the Hurricane - an event that we hardly ever experience here in uk.

Im a real fan of this saw and if i mention it to people over here they think it strange to be so keen on a chainsaw !!

I am giving my saw a good clean -up at the moment.

Yes! A man after my own heart- I like the old McCollough saws too. I have 4 of them, including a 650 and an 800. I was lucky and got the 800 slightly used for less than half new price. It really varoooms- I love that saw for big stuff! Couple months ago I was cleaning the saws. Did a dumb thing- had the cover off the air cleaner on the 650 and blew away the dust with a compressor hose. It forthrightly wouldn't start- only fires a couple times when I take out the spark plug and prime it. Any ideas other than taking it to a shop?

I can rebuild that carb for you. They take a special kit. Be very careful. Jeffcat

Thanks, where are you? There's an amish shop in our area that does a good job on small engines- that's where I bought the things. The 650 was the main saw I used (about 20 years). But I've been working with the 800 since I "cleaned" the 650. The 800 gets heavy after a while but I love it. It would be fun to get together for some cutting and learn from each other. Been involved with firewood cutting since I was a kid, dad has McCollughs too- his big one is a 700.

A handy thing I have is a big Kennedy toolbox reject drawer that I made brackets for that mounts on the rear rack of my atv with 2 bolts. I put 2 saws, gas & oil, axe, light log chain and a lunch pail in it and head for the woods. I need to get a digital picture of it to post. I also made a special long low trailer to pull with the atv to haul out wood. Another thing I also take along is Kleenex and tear off wads to use for earplugs.

Put a reply in yesterday and it didn't work. Live in the South Jersey area. Have rebuilt two 650 carbs and there are a couple little things in them that are for RPM control. Kit is about $10.oo cost and take about one hour with care. Have done a pile of 610 carbs and all sorts of big tillston carbs on the old saws. To blow your mind take a look under the hood of the newest cheepo units that are throw aways. They have PLASTIC carbs! Jeffcat.

Carb rebuild...
The carb is probably a diaphram pumper type and you've probably got a ruptured diaphram or something.
