I am looking to buy a cordless impact, 1/2 or 3/8 wrench. What volt is best, probably the highest volt I can get, right? It does have to be reasonable in price. I would like a snap on of course, but the others are real competitive.
Makita or Mac seem to be ok. I do not care for Dewalt for some reason, but could change my mind if the price is right. Any experience out there that anyone would like to share?

I work as a industrial generator mechanic, and I use a 12v 3/8, Dewalt. I like it because of its size and the amount of torque it has. I have had no problems with it, and some of the heavy equipment mechanics use both 3/8 and 1/2 Dewalts they have been very happy with them, and they abuse the snuff out of them as well. Just my 2 cents.

It was news to me, but a lot of the boys in the construction industry are trading out their cordless drills for impact drivers. They say impacts have more power and less head strippage. The down side is they are noisy.

Now hanging sheathing with 2" robertson screws is one job. Removing lug nuts is another. If you are shopping cordless impact drivers you will find the have a wide range of noses on them: 1/4" hex, 3/8" square and 1/2" square are common.

This article on batteries was a wake up call for me.

This video on cordless impact drivers was as I say news to me.

Depends what your gonna be using it for. I have snap on 18 volt and 14 volt 1/2 in impacts I use in shop everyday . Hardley use air impacts anymore , they work great on lug nuts etc,,no air hose to drag around ,plenty of power ,,but $$$ think around $400 -425 . Milwakee has a good 1/2 also . Harbor freight has a 19 volt 1/2 ,,dad has one and swears by it , will do lug nuts no problem. bout $120 last i checked .

I have been looking at them. 18, 19.2, 24V all seem heavy to me. I guess it depends on what your going to do with it. I'm thinking 14.4 Makita. But I have a 14.4 Makita drill I have been happy with. The batteries are very expensive so staying with one maker makes sense to me. There's fewer chargers to set up too.

Milwaukee, Panasonic, Makita and probably others don't get trashed that much. Others share your feelings about the yellow brand.

I bought a Milwaukee 18v cordless impact wrench (1/2" drive) a little over a year ago. I think model number is 9079. Use it mainly for changing tires on gravity box and hay wagon running gears. Has worked good for me and has good battery life.

I got it because I'm 72 and thought I might be losing a little giddy-up to take those tough nuts off with the 3/4" drive breaker bar.

Just my two cents, don't know about the other cordless impact wrenches.
