OT CLUTCH ADJ. ON DUMP TRUCK

Going to ask at the truck forum also but have rec. great help here.
I have an old Ford 8000--1974--cabover with the cat engine.
How do I ADJUST THE CLUTCH?? It would be really great if anyone had a pic of the procedure.
Thanks for any help.

If you have a BIG screwdriver you can skip the special tool. Remove the locking tab and insert a 1 1/2"X3/8" bolt in the hole and use it as a pivot for a BIG screwdriver or pry bar. Adjust it till you have about a 1/2" clearance between the clutch brake with the pedal released. You also want about an 1 1/2" of free travel.

Takes 2 people to do that adjustment, one has to be pushing the clutch down and the other one under the truck turning the preasure plate adjustment. Big Jim has the right way but left out the other person. Also as he said a good clintons book on big trucks spell out how to do it very well.

The big, double plate clutches usually require a special tool for the job. The back of pressure plate is threaded into the housing so you remove the lock and actually thread the plate farther into the housing, one lug at a time.
Most truck service manuals will have a detailed proceedure and pictures.

Lenray make sure you can adjust it 1st ,some of those had self adjusting clutchs as replacments. And if it is a self adjuster new clutch will be needed, if you are at end.
