A posting on another board mentioned using Cosmoline to protect parts. Where can Cosmoline be purchased or what is an acceptable substitute?

Somewhere else I read about a product called LPS-3, that dries waxy, is used to protect bare aluminum in aircraft. Evidently there is LPS, LPS 2, and this LPS 3, it sounded like it would be good to cover something for preservation. Cosmoline does a great job, but having uncovered a couple of surplus rifles, it is the messiest substance to get completely off. can of gas and three hours to clean off the gun.

I once bought a surplus military rifle that was packed in cosmoline. I tried several products to clean this. I found the Berrymans Spray carburetor cleaner worked the best.

Hi Art, Cosmoline is used for a steel protection in firearms for long term storage. Midway shooting supplies carry's it. Pretty cheap too.

Thanks for the reply, not that I would ever think of using it for the purpose you describe.
