Can anyone tell me the difference between Stoddard solvent and mineral spirts. Just using for cleaning parts.
Price for 55 gallons stoddard solvent from distributor $300 = $5.50 gallon.
Price for 5 gallons from parts house $38.50 = $7.70 gallon.
Price for mineral spirts on sale at Ace Hardware is $1.99 gallon.
What is everyone using?

When I bought a drum they recommend I buy something called rule 66 . I think this is a rating #. It has a whole lot less odor/fumes than the regular stuff. I can't recall if it was a stoddard solvent or a mineral spirts they may both be the same one may be just a better grade.

Dave - Stoddard Solvent is mineral spirits blended to defined values of specific gravity and viscosity. Back in the days of carbureted cars Stoddard Solvent was blended with Varsol to create "test fuel" for carbureter factory flow stand testing. It has the same flow characteristics as gasoline, but is much less flammable.

Anyway if you're just cleaning parts go with the cheap stuff!
