Got the flyer for their "After Thanksgiving" sale on November 26. Reciprocating saw for $15.99 (w/coupon) brad nailer $8.99 w/coupon, 4.5" angle grinder w/coupon $8.99, HVLP paint sprayer $29.99, plus more. The catch is that some of the coupons are good only from 8-noon and others are good only from 1-4 p.m.

And they"re probably without battery packs, cords, cases, or anything else that detaches from the unit. Won"t shop that cheapskate place unless there"s no option.

There are three stores in mid Michigan. I have bought a few things that have worked out OK. Anvil, carbide tool grinder, ornamental bender, 9" disk grinder and a 4" grinder are a few of the things bought from Harbor Freight. The 4" grinder did not hold up. The rest of the stuff has worked fine.

We have two HF's in the Dallas area. I go there about 4 or 5 times a year and usually pick up some good bargains. Like anywhere you have to know what your needs are vs the quality of the tools. I made my living being an aircraft worker so I have a very good set of Craftsman and Snap-on tools. However; there are even some Craftsman tools I wouldn't buy, for example their locking plyers are not near as good as Vise Grips. I would reccommend using name brand especially where percision is needed. We also have a Northern Tool Company with similar products.

I don't have a store close but always on the lookout when I travel. I have bought several things but always look at anything closely. I bought an 4" angle grinder last year for $12 and it's OK. I certainly have gotten $12 use out of it. I know the non-name brand tools are not the best. I think the key is don't abuse the tools and for us tractor hobby guys that use something a few times a year, they are great.

I pick and choose very carefully when I shop there. The electric motor powered stuff is not lifetime guranteed. There is a time limit on it and you only get 1 replacement if I am remembering correctly. The help in the store near me is not good at all. Usually they dont have most of the things in the flyer that I am interested in or I cant find them. Usually When I ask a employee I get the opposit of helpful friendly service. I do go about 4 times a year though. I am intrigued by their 60 dollar chain saw sharpener but still havent bought one yet. They dont have replacement wheels for it and I wonder about the quality.

I bought one a few months back and it seems to work pretty good....Of course, not ever having one more before, it's kind of hard to compare. I never had much luck with a hand file, and this seems to work as good as when I take it to the local shop. The instructions seem a little vague, at least to me, but then I'm not very good with instructions either.

Yea, they"ve got some stores near me. Horrible thing, now I can go and look at the tools. End up spending even more money. LOL

Some of their stuff is truly excellent. Their powder coating gun for example. Their jacks are a steal. The metal benders are also great. Some of the stuff is truly junky. And of course their DeWalt tools are no different then anyone elses DeWalt tools.

I have 1 basic rule while I'm shopping at Harbor freight.

If it has moving parts, don't buy it.

Beater wrenches, sockets and extensions, etc are just fine for occassional use, but I keep a good set of everything in my roll-a-way.

I'm sure as HECK not going to buy a set of 1" drive sockets and 1 1/4+ wrenches from the mac truck. Harbor freight works fine for those 1 or 2 times a year tools.

My nickels worth,

Scott

I have bought some tools from HF that I thought were an excellent value. I have bought some others that were junk. But their prices are usually VERY GOOD, as compared to similar tools elsewhere.

You don't always get what you pay for, but in my experience, higher priced tools usually are better. But sometimes I don't need top quality and fair to OK is good enough. Most of what I have bought at HF is at least OK. Good luck, but look what you are considering buying over carefully.

Cheap price, four times cheaper tools. Won't even last as door stops.

My view,

Allan

Well, It's 70 miles from my house to Harbor Freight, so I couldn't make it on time. Guess I'll just stay home. Redmud:

Have a Harbor Freight about 25 miles away. I receive thier flyers. Have made nunerous purchases and have not had any problems yet. Most of thier tools carry lifetime guarantee so I know where to go if they break. the tools are not the high priced high quality of the best brands but they have served me well for what I have to do. I just wish that they weren't made in China.

I bought a free standing bead blast cabinet about 2 months ago for $200 on sale, I have used the crap out of it and it seems to be ok, the only thing the door is made out of plastic and leaks a little but that can be fixed with a small piece of angle iron and a few screws.
You sure couldnt make one for that.
I live in Springfield, MO and have a store about 20 minutes from my house, they are open 7 days a week, they sure do make it handy to spend money there.

Walter, I live about 25 miles from Springfield so we are probably using the same Campbell St store. You are right that it is very convenient and I always seem to spend more than I had planned. So far have
had no problems with my purchases.
