Pipe dies / Threader Dayton brand

I have an older hand ratchet style pipe threader. Dayton brand probably came from Grainger's I need some new dies for it, they are one piece dies with non replaceable die inserts. (all cast iron)The people at my local Graingers store didn't even have a clue of what it was. Let alone of finding an replacement for me. thought somebody out there would know.Where I could find one. For all the little pipe threading I do I just can't justfie buying a new Ridgid outfit. Thanks Dave F.

Tom, No the dies are different & won't interchange. If I remember right thr ridgid dies are smaller & won't fit the rachet handle, Althought the rachet handle looks like an ridgid style handle. Dave F.

Hey Dave, like Dusty suggested try calling Grainger. The best thing is to call the spare parts line, but don't stick with them, because more than likely they won't be able to help if your set is fairely old. What you need to do is ask them for their tech services number. I found out a while back while looking for another part that Dayton is basically Graingers "generic brand". Like any other generic item it's made by someone else and simply given the Dayton brand name. If the set you have is fairly old then, like the part I was looking for, it may have been discontinued from their line long enough ago that neither the ones doing the ordering, nor the spare parts dept have anything on it anymore. If you can get someone in the Tech department that doesn't mind taking a little time to help you they should be able to tell you who origionally made the item. In my case I went from a CAT part number to the Dayton number (through another source),from Dayton to another part number, and finally to the origional vendor/makers part number. It took nearly an hour on the phone but I got the part. Good luck and I hope your hunt doesn't take as long as mine did.

Dusty, I am glad you had luck with grainger's I'd.Tried to explain to the morons on the phone that there were no model or part # on the unit they said they couldn't help me with out the numbers. I guess good ole customer service is a thing of the past. Dave F.
