Anyone have plans or pictures of the added hyd tank and valve set up for these home made units? I'm pretty sure how it was hooked up, but it's been a while and wanted to confirm before I started hooking it up. Thanks.

Years ago, The Mother Earth News had plans for building a dump truck using the power steering pump as power to raise the dump. I BUILT ONE, and it worked BUT I didn"t mess with the pump on the engine . I mounted one behind the cab on the frame, and ran it with a pto from the trans. The pump doesn"t have the fluid capacity to fill the cylinders unless they are double acting. I mounted another tank above the pump connected with a hose. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE IF YOU THINK IT IS WORTHWHILE.

My brother has a commercially made round bale mover that runs off the power steering pump and works well. It will pick up a bale and put it on a slide in the bed and then pick up one more. It uses a three spool valve with levers that hang off a headache rack just by the drivers door. He has his plumbed with quick disconnects for easy removal.It has an added reservoir on a big hose that fits the neck of the P/S pump. Mounted in a 1978 chevy 3/4 ton 4X4.

I am sure that the powersteering pump does not have enough pressure to make the loader work. I think you will have to mount another pump system or use a 12V pump and motor.

Bobs,
I'm just powering one hyd. cylinder. The one I saw had an added holding reservoir, then had a single valve mounted on the inner fender with a rod going thru the firewall with a screwdriver handle attached to activate the system. Hoses with quick disconnects went to truck bed with cyl. mounted on metal frame. Worked excellent!
