Howdy, I have several fluorescent lights in a shop and something has changed. I am now getting a hum, or static from the radio when it is on. Especially with AM stations. Any ideas as to what could be causing it will be appreciated. Thanks, dtanner

A tube could be failing, the socket/tube end is not making full contact or the capacitor in the ballast has dried out and failed. Fluorescent tubes are a radio transmitter of static anyways. They are filled with gas in a plasma state with the polarity alternating 120 times per second when energised. FM radios are frequency modulated which is more noise tolerant than amplitude modulated signals (AM).

Your new cell phone maybe a 1X system and/or on that new digital system DMS ( pretty sure?). The 1X phone are linked back to the cell site 100% of the time even when you are not talking. Also the new digital standards have fewer towers servicing a given area until all the sites are upgraded. This means your new phone cranks it's self to 100% power if required to "handshake" with the more distant tower. Rather than loafing along at much lower power levels and only checking in with the towers every few minutes for a split second.

Our provincial and Federal gov't are full of peace ativists and bunny huggers.Who believe the "other guys" will lay down thier firearms if drop them first. They also believe we can all get by on a diet without containing any animal products. In short we are being increasingly regulated and priced with the goal of an outright ban in the future. Moose resident $41.00, non resisdent $340.00. Deer res $34.00, non res $170.00. Black Bear res $34.00, non res $170.00 . Small game res $18.00, non res $85.00. Water fowl $25.50 & ? for non res. Export permit $35.00 Some hunts have to be with a guide or outfitter. Add 8% provincial sales tax and 7% federal sales tax. Some taxes can be refunded after filling out a wad of paper work.

Three and a half hours north of Detroit/Windsor or an hour north of Goderich. The east coast of Lake Huron is within sight of my place. 15+ hrs north of here, where we fly into the moose camp.

Any where within 1 hr of the major cities is that way here and 2 hrs out from Toronto. Glad to be out. The locals here detest the people who came from the city to work at the Bruce. And anyone making $30hr+ were minimum wage to $15.00 is the norm. Beef farming is even worse now. Bush planes and bush pilots are a type unto thier own. Another firm was contracted to fly this year with a rebuilt turbine Otter. Better than that beaten Otter with a 1340 Pratt & Whittney that was missing on one cylinder. Took three rebuilds to find the cam ring had a wallowed out lobe.

Must be nice here where I live you pick up a rifle and look thru scope you can't make a 360 without spotting a car, house, cow, horse or dog and that makes it real hard to use my 270 anywere but deep southern ILL. I always thought you were on the american side but I was wrong, I want to get up there some day before I die and check it out only exposure to canada was at detroit and buffalo just crossing bridge and dropping trailers and turning around but I liked what I saw. Well have fun and drop a moose for me see ya later.

Happened to shoot a 2-1/2 year old bull this year. He came right to my call in about 3/4 of an hour. Dropped him on the edge of the lake and floated him out. The other moose was a monster and had to be carried in quarters through a bog. Have a 350 yard rifle range off the back deck. Another 700 range just 3 minutes walk from the house. Been to Missouri, Moline Ill for Gathering of the Green, all the way around Lake Erie. Went to Jersey for some JD 435 parts. And drove across below the foreign country of Quebec to get to New Brunswick. It was amazing crossing from New York State into Vermont. Went from dirt and trash to one of the best looking places I've ever seen. Wish Vermont would expand and incorporate Ontario. Mount Washington was interesting and seafood was fine in Maine

He is right. fix your lights or listen to FM. You can disable your lights one at a time to find what light is the offinder. Look for black bands around the end of the tube. Change both of them.

Huge tip there I forgot. Replace the tubes in pairs. Being cheap and putting a new tube with an old tube overloads the ballast with unbalanced current. Save a ballast, replace both tubes. The excited plasma doesn't produce very much visible light. However the phosphorus powder blend on the inside of the glass gets excited and glows in the visible range.
