Some applications are better served by feeding single phase into a VFD ( electronic variable frequency drive) that provides 3 phase out. Worth a thought.

On single phase 240V you have Line 1 and Line 2. Hook them to two wires coming out of your 3phase motor. Also hook them to Line 1 and Line 2 of your load. Hook the third line from your 3 phase motor to Line 3 of your load. Belt up a single phase motor to your 3 phase motor to start it spinning. Use a hinge or belt tightener so you can shut off the single phase motor after the 3 phase is spinning. The spinning 3 phase motor generates the third leg that you need to run your 3 phase load. Capacitors on a phase converter do the same job as your single phase motor does in this setup. (Rotary phase converter).
