I just recently purchased a water pump with a 5hp briggs engine serial #300000. There is no spark and I would like to replace the points and put in electroic ignition. how do I remove the flywheel since I do not have a briggs puller. Any other ideas would be nice. thks in advance

Get yourself a 397358 solid state coil assembly. That is the correct one for older 5hp briggs engines. All you do is take old coil off, pull wire from behind flywheel, put new coil on and you are good to go.

Have you cleaned the flywheel free of any rust that may be on it? Often a little rust will stop the flywheel and magnet system from working.

If you install a Briggs Magnetron electronic ignition kit, all that is required is to remove the ignition coil to attach the Magnetron to it. The wire to the points can be cut and there is NO need to remove the flywheel to remove the old points... they can be left in place.

Another choice is to replace the entire coil with a Briggs or aftermarket unit that has the electronics already built in.
