Cleaning out the closet in my office; one box had 15 transformers in it; saved through the years as the device they powered failed..... cordless phones, cell phones, calculators, etc. Eight units in use now.....in my office, in addition to the others scattered throughout the house..... cordless flashlights, cell phone, cordless drills, low-voltage battery charger, calculator, etc. I'm of the generation that never threw anything away..... because we might "need it" someday. I've made a bunch of 'stuff' through the years, using things in a manner for which they weren't designed, but I can think of no use for these transformers; they're all 120 input; most are 12DC out, although there are some 6V , a 3.7, etc. Can they be used for anything else.

Hello Thurlow,
I have spent a few years overseas, and when I read the post heading "transformers" I thought it was about 220 volt to 110 volt. I've sold and given more than one away.

later days mate,
Jim

Do you have one with a 24 VDC Output?

Hi Jake,

You can get 115(230)/24 AC transformers from HVAC supply houses.

I do believe door bell transformers are also 24v ?
or are they 12v?

I have an old Sportster modem that will not work on my phone line but works fine on other lines. I"m wondering whether the phone signal needs a boost and I was mulling over hooking up a step-up transformer. Maybe there"s a better way to amplify the phone signal?? I"ve always found those transformers useful because something usually breaks and needs a replacement. I recently received an electronic gift from England and the transformer that came with it was designed for 240V, so I just replaced it with a suitable North American unit and everything works just fine.
So just keep them but do make a database of their specs so you have a reference when you do need it.

Using a transformer to boost the signal is something Tim Allen would try.

I experimented once with one of those powering a small scale electrolisis set-up, it did work, but was very slow.

I've used the 12Volt DC ones for battery trickle chargers.
