I was at Harbor Freight Tools tonight. They had a $100.00 chop saw on sale for $50.00. I have always been a believer in "you get what you pay for," but will this China made saw give me satisfactory service? It will be used in my home shop. I don't hire out but do a fair amount of maintenence welding and fabricating. Have any of you had experience with saws of this caliber? Thanks, Glenn F.

How many times in your life do you want to buy a chopsaw? So you spend 50 bucks on an cheapy, and it lasts 200 cuts and dies. That"s 25 cents per cut. But if you bought a good one for 200 bucks and you get 5000 cuts out of it. That"s 4 cents per cut. Buy a good one and chances are you will only ever have to buy one.
Besides the long term economy, don"t you get all warm and fuzzy using a good high quality tool???

Hi Glenn,

If your going to be cutting thinn light gauge metal, 16ga and less, then the 14" table top saws are ok. If your going to expect it too cut large heavy cuts out of thick metal like a commerical chop saw then you will be disappointed.

I bought a Milwaukee 14" and I'm disappointed as I'm used to using 5hp commerical chop saws that cuts anything like butter.

I've got one of those. Have used it in my private shop for about one year without any problem. The only "problem" I have had is the saw blade, that is made in Russia. It doesn't last to long cutting 3/8" items. Next time I need a blade, I'll spend a little more and get something that will last longer.

I bought a cheap one from a Cummins tool sale several years ago. I did not use it very often but it worked well when I did, until it was stolen.

Have had one for about 5 years. No problems. But only use it for occaisional stuff. Agree, it is not precision, but for cutting an occaisional rod or bar stock works great.

I burned the first one up after about 5 years. The second one is still going strong. $50 for five years is not bad.

Bought a used Makita and used it pretty hard. Cut 3" pipe and thick hollow tubing occasionally, and finally one day with no warning it went "up in smoke" A few segments flew off the commutator. So with a Chinese motor removed from my table saw and a bit of "fitting" was able to get it all operational again. You can see it at:
