Went to my local parts store to get some Stabil. The parts guy recomended the sea foam brand. Anyone had better luck with one over the other? Thanks.

Thanks for the imput guys. I got a feeling we are going to get alot of snow here this winter so I probably wont need to worry about gas getting stale, just my wallet getting empty.

I know everyone has their favorite thing to do or use. I say what I am going to say from experience. I only use Briggs and Stratton stabilizer or Sea Foam. Sea Foam has sat in my generator for almost a year and fired right up last month when needed. Have seen equipment come in with Sta-Bil and the gas had formed what looked like tapioca pellets in the tank. Does not happen all the time or with all types of gas, but it does have a reaction with some kinds of fuel, I personally will not take any chances.
When Knox Industries owned Sta-bil, it was second to none. Now that Gold Eagle ownes it, the quality of it has went down hill fast. Yes, Sea Foam or Briggs stabilzer is higher priced than Sta-bil, but when you are looking at 30-50.00 to get something repaired, is it really worth saving a couple dollars, plus when you figure out the cost per ounce, Sea Foam is quite cheap.

Leland, was this a new engine or a new peice of equipment? I do not think Briggs stuff is Stabil, briggs stuff is blue, Sta-bil is pink. A lot of OEM's put stabil with the unit, I have never opened a Briggs replacement engine with Sta-bil in it. Jim

Each one has it's own use. I've put Stabil in my gas for several years, and believe it helps engines start better, especially during winter when fuel is stored for longer periods. I also put Sea Foam in each gas tank twice a year to keep the systems cleaned out.

I'll stick with Stabil. sold at WalMart, fits my budget better. both are excellent. I agree with aviation fuel, never thought about it.

I figure the fuel system won't gum with the avaiation fuel. And the engine runs alot longer on a couple of bucks worth of aviatian fuel than on a couple bucks worth of stabil. Around her 100LL sells within a few cents of automoive 94 octane premium. For a few weeks last spring the AV gas was actually cheaper. Plus while it really isn't needed the wee bit of lead does put a protective layer on the exhaust valves and seats. Sure boosts the octane of the 87 octane mixed with it.

Where would I go to get some AV 100LL? Do some gas stations carry it?

Years ago, I know of one gas station that sold avgas but you'd be hard pressed to find one today. Check with a small airport. The smaller the better. You'll be able to either walk or pull up to the pumps there. Contact the airport manager and ask some questions about what to do to get av gas. tell them its for an old _____ with high compression pistons. Not for road use, etc, bla, bla, bla,smoke-n-mirrors, bla. Av gas runs real good in high compression engins that run at a slow to medium and steady rpm. A fellow at my work, who is into drag racing, says folks have tried it at the track with poor results. Not forumlated to ramp up to high rpm is short order.

Airports around here will sell you all the 100 low lead you can pay for. People seam to think it's expensive but it runs close to premium automotive pump gas in price. Maybe a shock to those used to burning the less taxed farm fuel in road vehicles however.

I prefer the SeaFoam, mostly because of its versatility. Will not only keep the gas good, but can also be used to clean carbs and many other things.

Good stuff.

I don't use the stuff. Just 100 low lead aviation fuel in anything that's going to sit for a while. 100LL has a three year shelf life vs one month for car & tractor gas.
