how are sk sockets?

Tell me what this set is worth: Metal box, plastic insert, one 3/8 ratchet, one 6" and one 3" extension, seven s.a.e short sockets, 9 deep sae, 9 metric short, 9 metric deep, and a 5/8 spark plug socket. This was a pawn shop deal, and wondering what it is worth? And if it was a good score? I paid 40$ for it so i think i did pretty good. Always wanted an s-k set. And i also picked up an aluminum 18" rigid pipe wrench for 14$, Any idea what it is worth? And if it was a good score? This was a little ole pawn that deals mostly in cars, but decided to stop in and see if they had any tools, and sure enough several goodies, so how did i do??

SK's are great sockets. I've never stripped a ratchet, and the only way I broke a socket was trying to get a locking lug nut off (forced it over lug and split it)

My luck may be better than others, but I think they're great tools. You got a great deal.

We use SK sockets an ratchets at work an they hold up just as good as Sears an Snapon tools. We get our's fixxed an returned at our local Car Quest store.Yes they do break but it's the warranty as the others. I think you did a good deal.

Sounds like a good deal to me... That 3/8 SK ratchet is my favorite. Have had several for 25 years, & they still work great, no slop or slipping.

I had a nice old SK 3/8 ratchet, It wore out, so I sent it in for warranty. I got back a piece of junk. The day I got the replacement, I used it to tap on a bolt and it poped apart. Its still in pieces in the bottom of my tool box. If its older Im sure you got a great set of ratchet stuff. Nice price on the aluminum wrench.

Have a 1/4" drive set and a set of 3/8" deep sockets in "tin" boxes that I acquired in 1955. They have held up well over the years, but a couple of sockets are cracked. Tried locally to get that warranty honoured and the response was "Too old". As I live in Canada I have brought them with me on visits to the U.S. only to be asked "did you buy them here?" Of course the answer is no, so no warranty in either case. Always thought that it was a universal warranty and who cares where they came from. So, they just sit in my toolbox. May write directly to S-K when I get a suitable camera that will show them what I have.

Yeah, that border can sometimes be a PITA, adding unnessary costs to things that should be minimal. Have a BIL who winters in Mesa (AZ) and the family uses him as a "receiving depot" for those things that are difficult or impossible to find here. Will likely try something there when I can clear the way first with some decent photos.
