Hi gHastings,

Have you tried the IH forum? Sorry I don't have a spec on a M. I do like Mark does for sequence tho, but with using a torque wrench.

If nobody answers, the idea is to squish the gasket out towards the ends. Start in the center of the head and alternately zig zag back and forth and up and down, working from the center out in an x pattern till you get to the end. Main thing is equal torque. Means more than actual value; course you don't want em loose.

Usually make 2 passes. 1st pass just a snug down and second pass torque.

People will hit me, but I use an impact wrench. I brtt brtt brtt thru the 1st cycle, and then on the second (final) lap, at 100-125 psig, I watch the socket. When it just stops spinning (moving), I let her have about 3 more smacks and quit. Have checked it against a torque bar and it runs around 100 ft/lbs.

Oh the other thing I do, that I'll get hit for, is use copper coat spray and spray both sides of the gasket evenly before installation. It's made just for that. (auto store Kopper Koat).

They'll hit me for this too: I don't retorque after initial run-in either.

Now let's see, when's the last time I had to re-do a head gasket..... ...I'm thinking..... .still thinking.

Good luck,
Mark
