This 1st picture is the twist or auger style etc. post hole digger I'm trying to track down. As no seems to sell them around here anymore.

The bottom is wide open so it digs down real fast. In really dry stuff it can have trouble as dirt falls out and doesn't all come out of the hole as fast. But the import thing is digs down in a hurry. Does anyone
know the Brand Name of it and if they are still making them?

Now this is the kind I don't want. Notice how its closed off on the bottom. Its doesn't dig as aggressive.

Here is another picture of it. It seems this style
is all that is found in local hardware stores.

Seymour Brand -NOT the style I'm looking for.

I searched for a source without any luck also. I would like to have one too. A M Leonard ( 1-800-543-8955) has what looks to be a cross between your two photos. It is referred to as a Lawn Post Hole Auger and comes in a 4" and 8" version. The description states that just five half turns fill it with no dead center.

Not sure what you are looking for from your post. But have one that has two wooden handles that open and close. Lowes, Homedepot, construction supply houses all carry them. Seen two models. home owner version, smaller and lighter. Construction model, heavier gauge metal, thicker handles. You hold the handles together, which has the jaws spread. Hit into the ground, then spread the handles, that closes the jaws and you lift the dirt out of the hole.

Yes I have some of the ones you speak of. The pictures could be better I guess. I'm looking for the other kind which you twist into the ground to dig the dirt up. The one I'm looking for works very well. My father in-law is looking for some of them for work. They dig down 12 feet with them when putting a pilings in tight spots!

It seems when ever I ph. around looking for one all everyone has it the bottom picture. Its the same idea and all but different and doesn't work near as well we found. The bottom of it is designed a little differently which makes it not as aggressive. I'm about ready to give up as no one seems to have seen them anywhere except at farm auctions. I guess the company must of gone out of business or something.

I replied in some other forum, I see them at auction sales once in a while, I really like ours. I never knew why other people hated screw post hole diggers, they must own that other style. Ours works well in many soil types, dad dug down 50+ feet with it once looking for water, used sections of pipe on the handle. Dad had time on his hands tho...
