These gate openers appear to be expensive for a dual swing system ranging in price from $350-$1000. I've seen systems from Mighty Mule (also GTO/PRO), Ducati, and Viper. The majority appear to offer only a 1 year warranty. Where's a good place to buy one? Which one would you recommend?

Thanks!

Howdy, We have gotten two through Ebay. One fm700, one fm500. If you do a search on ebay there are several dealers selling. We got the fm500 for $430 + shipping, retail is about $550. We have been very happy with both of them. We did have to buy a new $15 transformer for one. It was interesting to examine what sales have been made to determine the prices things are going for. Good luck

I installed a GTO Pro (don"t recall the series number) which is an upgrade from the Mighty Mule. Its been working about 5 five years without any problem. I used only the one gate rather than the two and opted not to put on the locking system or the obstruction sensor. Bought one of the special designed locks to prevent completely removing the actuator arm and walking off with it. I can disconnect one end of the arm and open the gate manually.

I contacted the company via internet and asked for dealer locations. I"m in central Arizona and ordered mine from New Mexico after getting prices from several dealers.

The biggest problem my friends have had with automatic gate openers is lightning strikes wiping out the electronics. Don't know if the length of fencing has anything to do with attracting lightning, but one friend has probably two miles of 4-wire barb wire fencing around his property and has been through probably five receivers in four years. Another friend has probably 300 feet of fencing across the front of his property and has replaced the unit twice in five years. Look at the manufacturer with the best warranty, especially if they cover lightning damage.

I only have limited experience with electric gate openers, and none with dual ones, but in my area the most common one is Mighty Mule. We pur one in for my mother and she really likes it. We tried the solar power option, but after abbut 4 days of clouds the battery ran down. Most farm supply stores carry them, I think as well as Norhtern Tool.

I too have a neighbor that has a Mighty Mule and as far as I know, opens one way (towards the house, away from the road). He has a huge iron fence gate, has it set up with remote garage door type openers as well as at the fence. He loves the thing, and it appears to work well. I'm thinking he got it through TSC, but not cheap. Am thinking he said something like $700+.

Appear to be pretty slick though.
