O/T Getting moth ball smell out of old quilt

Well, one day when I was spray painting with a resparator the solution hit me. Some filters on these resparators have activated charcoal in them to trap the organic vapors. I dipped into the fish tank supplies and dumped a few cups of charcoal on a pizza pan and closed the lid. When I opened it up a few weeks later no smell, and it never came back.

I suggest that you go to a pet store and get some charcoal put it in a sock or nylon stocking and put it in a plastic trash bag. Open in two weeks and your problems are all gone...

Seriously, those old quilts should not be washed that much as the old threads will give way and you will end up with a pile of strings. I would just hang it outside in the shade and let Mother Nature do her work on it. The smell of mothballs is not that repulsive. It is a smell you kind of get used to after a while. We have old cars that get stored in the winter with mothballs in the interior. By spring we kind of crave that smell. It seems like by the end of summer the smell is gone. It will just take time but it will go away.
