Hi All,

Well I'm back from playing the great white hunter. Went after some Turkey for the first time and I guess you need to see some turkey's in order to hunt them :)

Never even seen any fresh turkey sign. We went high, low and inbetween. Gee's it was dry. Hunted the small running creeks and seeps. We put on 700 miles in the back country in a weeks time. Still no birds or "fresh" sign.

Deer population was also extremely low. Seen 12 deer in a weeks time. No bucks!

What I did see was a 8 point bull elk (that's 16points for you Texas boys that count both sides) standing in the middle of the road in the deep back country. WOW what a sight!

I came around a uphill right hand cornner and asked the wife:
"what kind of horse is that" as he was standing with his head down eating and his rump facing us, just then he raised his head to look at us with that beautiful 8 point rack.

I got to count both sides "twice" as it must of been the first diesel truck he's ever seen as he was confused at what to do next. I followed him about 100yds on the road before he took off on the 60� down slope.

In over 40yrs of hunting, I've never seen a 8 point bull elk. I never expected that I would see that in Arizona!!!

Welcome back. Wow - 8 point bull. That must have been a MONSTER! Were you lucky enough to get some pics?

Biggest I have ever seen was a 7 point Royal and that was yrs. ago.

My out of state hunting trip was similar. We went to Central TX bow hunting white tail deer. Out of 9 of us only 3 got anything; one doe, one spike and one nice sow hog.

Hunting hard in FL to get some meat in the freezer.

Hi Mark,

Well the Texens (both family and friends) I hunted with all count both sides reguardless if deer, elk or antelope. It was very comical to listen to my unkles discribe what they saw that day... :)

Turkey hunting in the Fall. Now what kind of fun would that be to kill a turkey at the time of year most eat turkey.

Reason I say this is our turkey season is in the spring. We call them in during mating season and can only take toms.

So how do you hunt turkey this time of the year ?? Did not think they would answer a call this time of year.

Did you see any elk ????? ????? ????? LOL....

I hooked up with a so called experienced gobbler hunter that said certian calls would work in fall, a hello or food call? He didn't have any more luck than us tho...lol

Me ? I found a spot that several hunters were hunting and was hoping one of them would spook a live one my way...

Apparently fall road stalking works well as they all seamed to use this technique. There just wasn't any brids to stalk.

There was some amatures not too far away that if they would have hit a brid with the number of shots they fired, they would have been eating turkey jerkey!

how many yearrs have they been introduced to Az. In Ia they are as thick as deer. Getting to be too many as some are living in town and amking some mad and some glad. they took off like wildfire here

T Bone, Please come to central wisc and you will see flocks of turkeys of 100 to 200 and all the deer your car or truck may wish to hit. Just drive about 55 to sixty down our back roads and I know for a fact that your insurance company will be given a call. good luck next time Bill

Here in my county's in central Il car-deer accidents are the most reports that the sheriff has to fill out. Wish you would come and thin a few of them out. They make lousey hood ornaments.
See turkey and hear them all the time also.

Here in south Illinois you dont need a gun for deer or turley, just drive up and down the road and eventually one will get ya. Fact is an Ill central train got a mountain lion just south of me. Conservation people are really mum about this deal??

T bone next time spend your money in PIKE county ILL you can trip over deer and turkey and great guides so you don't leave empty handed.

Hi Leland,

Ya thats what we were talking about doing as were spending close to what a guide would charge without the results.

We took a trip to Colorado elk hunting last year to my old stomping grounds and didn't have any luck as there again the animal population was terrible when comparred to what it was.

Don't sound good, this winter I would like to go to arkansas and pop myself a bore. But there is prime public land in ILL to hunt on check out jim edgar state park have seen monster bucks and sangnois about 10 miles up road on ILL river good spot also good luck totals about 24,000 acres of public land.

Hey T_Bone I�m going to get you up here to the Great North West yet. If you want to see Elk we can take a 45-minute ride west of here, and you can see 15 to 20 Elk at a time. The Olympic National Forest is full of them. I gave up hunting years ago, one of the reasons why, was every time I went over there to hunt Elk you would see the most beautiful bucks, right out of a Walt Disney movie, but no bulls. Go back over for deer season and you can�t walk for the bulls. How does that work?

T_bone: Glad to see you back! We've got tons of turkeys here in NY--my brother had a flock of 20 or so go through his front yard a couple of days ago, including some chicks that looked like they were only a few weeks old. Muzzle-loading season starts this Saturday, so I'm going to play Daniel Boone for a couple of days. With any luck, I'll be snacking on fresh tenderloin by Saturday night!

Guess you just hunted in the wrong place. I see turkeys in my front yard almost every day. I even have a picture of about 100 of them from a year or so ago all in my front yard. But its also a 20 acher yard lol

Good to hear from ya.....been a lot of people asking about your line of stuff. I guess the easiest thing would be, is to wait 6 months and tell them how to fix it since they didn't get the expertise on how to build it. I suppose you wouldn't like me to tell ya, that I can hear turkeys from my back steps nearly 80% of the time, and could take you to some, nearly 90% of the time.

Glad to hear you at least saw some wild life.
Here in Ca. the mountian lions are wiping out the deer, pigs, and the turkeys. We use to at least see sign of the turkeys and the pigs, not anymore.
We can't beat the deer off with a stick. They know they are safe in the yard. Kinda hard on the wifes plants though.
