Two of my cordless drivers are getting so they don't hold a charge anymore. Dewalt want nearly $40 for one new battery. Just got the Harbor Freight in-store flyer today; 14.4 volt driver for $15.99. Guess I'll get one of those and when the battery goes away I'll throw it and buy another one. Anybody else doing that?

Yes, I've done that. Bought a Coleman 14.4v from Checker auto for just under $20. The drill seems to be ok but the battery drains rather quickly.

Took an old 12v cordless and put on 10 foot of 10 gauge wire and some battery clips. Runs off the riding mower battery. Plenty of reserve power and real handly. Don't need any 400 foot extension cords or triple battery packs.

Check with Batteries America - they stock and or rebuild all kinds of battery packs. Have done well by me for amateur and commercial hand held radio betteries. www.batteriesamerica.com or call 800 308 4805.

Your battery pack is actually just a plastic case. Cut it/pop it open, and you'll find the batteries inside. Take them to RadioShack and they'll have replacement batteries. Put the new batteries inside the pack, tape/glue it back together, and you're good to go.

A possible free fix is to drop the battery pack onto the ground. Supposedly internal shorts occur in the batteries, and the jarring action of hitting the ground breaks the shorts. Can't vouch for this one. But you've probably nothing to lose by trying it at this point.

I've never tried it myself, but I've seen reports that storing the batteries in a freezer for a few days and allowing them to thaw good before recahrging revives them.

Hmmm, maybe that's why the battery in my Makita 9.6v lasted for almost 10 years. It spent winters in an unheated shed.

I wanted a second cordless drill just as a backup, in case I forgot to charge my good one. My local hardware store had a cheap Chinese, 18 volt cordless drill on sale for about $20, and I got one. It's a Toolmaster, I'll bet it's basically the same as the Harbor Freight. Actually, it's been a lot better than I thought it would be, and for the money you can't go wrong. And if the battery dies, I'll throw it away and get a new one without a thought.

I've bought a lot of Harbor Freight tools, and they've always been anywhere from pretty good to excellent. And for the price you can't go wrong.

My 12v Dewalt batteries failed and I got reasonably priced (read "cheap") no-name replacement batteries from an Ebay battery store. They work pretty good. I'd rather be using my Dewalt than a Harbor Freight model. Just finished screwing together a good sized deck with it and have no complaints. I'd do it again (purchase no-name batteries). Hehehe, one deck is enough for awhile.

Leroy, the outfit is called Sunn Battery. The ebay seller"s handle is ptron1. You can do an ebay search or they also have a website, haven"t used it, at www.sunbattery.com. I notice on their website that they too rebuild batteries as mentioned in other posts. Hope this helps.

Do you have a battery store in your area? Some of them will rebuild your old battery. About half price.

Look on your search engine under batteries. There are companies specializing in reconditioning spent batteries. We used them to recondition hand held radio batts.Sorry I do not recall a name.
