I am looking at buying a Poulan Pro 330 chainsaw. Are they good reliable saws? good quality? It looks like a well built saw to me. Anybody here have one? if so can you tell me anything about them? Thanks!

I have had 3 Poulan chain saws in the last year. The first was a Timber Master. After warm up the saw would not idle, either it would run about half throttle or die. The dealer gave me another Timber Master, the gas tank leaked and also it had the same problem, would not idle after the saw was warmed up. So I returned it to the dealer and they gave me credit to update to a Poulan Pro 330. Guess what!! It won't idle either, has the same problem as the first 2 chain saws. It runs fine as long as you are sawing a tree. Just don't expect it to idle down when you let off the throttle. Adjust the idle screw to slow it down and it just dies. Evidently there is a problem with the Walbro carburetors. If there was a way to get my money back I'd try a different brand. I used a Mac 10-10 for 25 years and had no problems. That saw cut 5 to 8 cords of osage orange a year. Now that was a quality saw. Wish I had of bought 2 McCulloghs and stored one for future use. Lloyd in Missouri.

I had a poulan chain saw years ago. It run good for a while , and then problems. Ended up with the cylinder wall pealing. Mcouloch(spelling doesn't look right) had the same problem. They would run good for a while. Then the cylinder wall would peal. They had some kind of a tin coating on the cylinder wall. That was the start of those saws going strait down hill. Stick with Husky , echo . sthil , johsnered. And in that order.

I have the Poulan Pro 325 it has the magic words on it Made in Sweden I think it was the only model that was any good. If you go to ebay and search for Poulan you may get a real deal on a 330, A local dealer here used to carry the line and several of my neighbors got various models as far as I know mine is only one still in use all others kaput. Lots have husky's. I only saw two Stihl saws in action one cut 6 cord and electronic ignition gave out no warranty at that time other one cut so slow I could run faster It is all huskys around here. At the place I get tractor parts they said they sold 37 new Husky saws in 2 weeks, they also have Stihl but don't sell as many.

I like the poulan saws, they run about 45 minutes before you have to work on them. Thats as long as i want to run a chain saw without taking a break! I agree, ok for a homeowner, for serious work spend a little more.

I'd say they're good for "homeowner" type use. For serious work, try a Stihl, Husky, Echo, or Jonsered. Older, all cast metal saws of different brands can be good, too. Parts availability becomes an issue then.

20 years ago I bought a used 16" Poulan 3?? from
a dealer and sawed I don't know how many loads of wood with it. Carb problems popped up and parts became a problem 5 years ago. I then bought an 18" Poulan from a home store and wished I had bought one much earlier. It is so much lighter. The only thing I do to it is sharpen the chain, adjust tension mix up fuel. Maybe I've been lucky, but I like Poulan saws. Adios,
Dick B.
