I'm looking for a small 4X4. I've been watching used Isuzu Rodeos the seem to be very inexpensive compared to other small suv's. Drove one and liked it, thinking of buying one but haven't heard anything about them mechanically,(good or bad). Any info good or bad would be great. thanks, Andy

Friend of mine had one - He was not happy, given, it was an older model, but about everything expensive went out.

go to www.edmunds.com and browse through the town hall discussion forums for info on the Rodeo. Keep in mind that the Honda Passport and Isuzu Amigo are mechanically identical for questions about reliability etc.

I had a 94 Rodeo 4x4, put 149000 miles before the clutch took a dump. And the ABS light came on at about 105,000 mi. so I disconnected the ABS and it was fine. Other than that had only normal maintainence issues...it was a bit thirsty and rode like a truck but overall it was a good truck. Like all foreign vehicles, they are susceptible to rust.

They might be good as Honda bought them and resold them as Passports.

The Honda thing was that Honda didn't have any SUV's in their dealer's parking lots and wanted the customer draw. Passport was a quick fix till they could do their own.....which they have done and dumped Isuzu.

my 2c,

Mark

about like any other mass produced product, there are good ones and bad ones. some folks swear by them and other folks swear at them. a neighbor of mine had one and it was nothing but trouble from the first day he had it. all kinds of electronic and tranny problems.

Bought the wife a new 4x4 in 2001.53.000 miles and no problems so far.I did put on a new set of Bridgestones and have the frontend aligned last week.I change the oil and filter every 4000 miles.3.2 liter v6 has plenty of power.could be a little better on gas milage.Looks nice has a nice comfortable interior but it does ride a little rough. But as far as the ride and the milage all the suv's could stand improvement. All things considerd i think the Rodeo is a good vehicle.

My daughter and son-in-law have a 98 Rodeo. Last I knew it had over 125000 and still going strong. Had some AC problems a year ago and some oil leaks but overall has been good and very dependable. HTH
