Huskqvarna 371 chainsaw

I have a husky 371 chainsaw that when i adjust the carb to its peak performance the saw will not idle down, but when i adjust the carb to get it to idle, it has no power. I have rebuilt the carb, and adusted it to factory settings, and also replaced the boot between the carb and cylinder, but no change. The only thing that i can think it might be is that it is sucking air from somewhere, and the only place that is left would be the crankshaft seal. Open for any help if anyone out the has got any ideas. Thanks Scott

Hi Scott,
change the fuel line in the tank. It could have cracks (air leaks) that you can only see if you stretch it. Replace filter at the same time. Should be able to get both for 10-12 bucks. I make a small hook in a wire coat hanger to fish the fillter and hose out of the tank.

another way to check seals; use an eyedropper with fuel in it. with saw on its side,running, squirt fuel around seals. If one is leaking, it will suck fuel in & run faster. If possible, try another carb, known to be good, on the saw. Sometimes screws have buggered up the ports by being tightened too far & carb body is shot.

scott,, if you have a bad crank seal you can tell if you lay the running saw on its side,, then tip it upright,, if the engine speed changes dramatically its probably the seal.. by the way,, the one on the clutch side usually goes out before the flywheeel side.. good luck
