I have heard of a product called "Wonderweld." I know that it is used to seal water leaks in the engine block, but does it work good.

I've used it in the past to seal cracks in cast iron cylinder blocks. It's success depends entirely on the width of the crack- hairline OK, anything much bigger, get out the welding rods!

Hi Nathan,
I have never heard of "Wonder Weld" but it sounds like it may be similar to something we have. Ours (called "Iron Mender") looks like a big fat crayon and is used to seal porous welds and fine hairline cracks on cast iron or any other casting or material for that matter.

The key is that the part area to be sealed must be at 350°F to apply the sealant and then it must not reach that temperature again if it is to remain sealed. We have had customers use it on engine blocks and even on high pressure (3000PSI) pump housings. The machine shop that used it on the pump housing was able to place the sealant on both sides of the leak which amounted to a weld that just wouldn't seal. The blocks I've seen repaired where only sealed on one side.
HTH,
Steve

Hi NG, Sodium silicate is the best radaitor sealer and also good for temperoly sealing head gaskets on gas & diesel. One should notice a white cyrstiline substance in the top of the radaitor and this is sodium silicate (or egg whits). You buy it at any pharmacy, why I don't know, but Wal-Mart or Walgreens pharmacy carry's it. Use only a 1/4 of a pint as it will totally plug a water system up and is a real "B" to get back to where it will circulate.

Anyone buying a diesel should always look very hard to see if any has been added!!! Very easy to spot if your looking for it!!!
