I see that my local yocal hardware store doesnt sell the Dursban and Diazion. I am now using Permithrin, Can farmers still buy the Dursban? If so how do I get it.

I know I can still get dursban or lorsban here in CA. Only thing is,it is in 2 or 2.5 gal jugs. Probably alot more than you would need? Check with your farm chemical dealers in your area? Jake

I am trying to control carpenter ants and make sure that no ticks are present around my house. I know that Dursban is no longer available, I have 1/2 pint left of the liquid. I will need to do some looking for other insecticides, maybe tractor supply, or a feed store. any suggestions?

Talstar will take care of ticks and ants. I have been using it for 4 years on mosquitoes. The only thing that is left when broken down by sunlight is carbon dioxide. Very safe to use. We always use a spreader-sticker so it won't wash off and move around. Most hardware stores or agways carry it.

Dursban is no longer manufactured, at least in the US. Think the same thing happened to diazinon.

The good stuff is reserved for the professionals, and those who have applicator licenses. Us peons can't get the stuff. (Besides, in the bug world, insecticides are obsolete in a few applications.)
(Think about which bugs survive your applications of insecticices!! - those who are immune!!)

What are you trying to control? I can call my pesticide salesman. I never has good luck with permethrin as it only lasted a few days on mosquitoes. I have been using Talstar and get 3 to 6 weeks control.

I have been told that Tempo is a new insecticide used in grain bins to replace Malathion. I guess it is what the professional bug killers use to kill ants, spiders, termites and what not. And to boot it is cheaper than Malathion. May want to check into that and see what it does treat.

My understanding is that both Dursban and Diazanon have stopped being produced. If you find any it is old stock and you should get it, because there will be no more made. At least for consumers, not fully sure about the professionals.

I used to buy Dursban from Home Depot for termites. Disappeared.

Just happened to be in the store one am when the Ortho sales guy was there. Whined about the Dursban thing and he said REJOICE SUCKER and put me onto a new termite/ant killer for your house. I had a severe infection of termites, with 60 piers to treat.

Took 3 quarts at $35 per but they are gone and that has been 2 years ago. Said it is good for 5. Don't remember the name but on the label (in front) it says it's for termite treatment.

On fireants, I use Diazinon liquid in a pump sprayer.

But if you want to get serious (and have deep pockets) Logic will smacko the ants. Takes about a month to get the queen killed (one application), but when she goes so does the mound.
