OT-Dodge Caravan Engine

I have to rebuld the engine on my step daughters dodge van. Its a 1988 model with the 4 cylender engine. Am I gonna have to remove the right fender to get the engine seperated from the transaxle?

ps taking the trans out with the engine makes it easrier to install as the engine likes to twist in the mounts and mating it with the trans makes you a pro in a forgien language!!!

yeah, pop the axle shafts and pull the whole thing out with a engine tilter,crack the trans from the engine and do the seals too

if you have the 2.6 mitsu engine prices are high and the oil pump alone is $90!!! carefull on the pistons the have several/jet valve type/non jet valve/dish and flat top. use the casting # to determine head volume so you have the right compression and use new head bolts and a graphite head gasket.
chuck the balancing shafts and go with the eliminator kit (basicly a cam bearing to seal off an oil passage and to chuck the two ballancing chains and shafts) it will cause a little more buzzing but I put 100,000 miles on one this way ,mitsu use a forged crank and thier tough!!!! its a tough engine,i was dusting a kid off that had a honda civic ;}

No you dont have to remove the fender.Take out the splash shield between the strut and the engine on the right side.It is plastic and removes easily.Remove the belts and the front crankshaft pulley.Remove all accesories from the engine.It will just squeak out of there.Moline

i did one and toot the trans and engine out together without removing the fenders..it was mitubishi made and the parts were high.. lucas
