anybody know if replacement tapes are available?
broke the end off my 100' and my 25' is split.
hate throwing out stuff that can be fixed.

There are a few reasons for that. The case of most, if not all tapes is now plastic, very cheap to make. The blade is metal and accounts for 95% of the cost of a complete tape. Also as Leland stated, we are a throw away society. Too many people are too lazy to fix things or can't and it is cheaper to replace than pay someone else to fix it. And then all business decisions are based on maximum profits today, nevermind what's right or good for mankind in the long term. Maybe I should say some, as there was an article in USA Today recently about COSTCO. They had purchased a huge number of denim jeans at a good price and reduced their price accordingly. A market analyst chided them because they should have left the price up and made more money for the shareholders. So at least one company is doing right, at least for now. Otherwise it's 'fill my coffers as full as I can today and then I'll be set and to bad for anybody else'.

If you know anyone that needs a gag pulled on them you could have some fun with the broken one. Just rivet the end back on minus an inch or so and "leave" it with them. Most of the time they'll be scratching their head for hours before they reallize what's going on.

Just so your friend doesn't come over and do some wood working for inside your home some day with your tape you gave him after he made a royal screw up in his house,--- pay back time!

Lowes and menards have them but just as cheap to buy new tapes , it's still cheaper to just buy a whole new tape. remember we are now a throw away nation. You don't repair you replace.

Like the other fellow mention last time I went to do refill it was just as much as complete new tape. Once I found it was even higher. I know it seems such a waste but lots of things are that way now. RickL

I know you can get replacement tapes for the 25'er. Local Home Depot carries them...But here's the stinger...The replacement tape is just $0.27 cheaper than an entirely new tape measure. WHY? John

Getting hard to find refills,might be worth trying manufacturer.Stanley blades are retailing higher than the new tapes ???,Believe Lufkin is part of Cooper tools Co,who is major stockholder/owner of "True Value Hardware Stores",so would prolly be best bet for Lufkin.
