first off can anyone give me any info about who made blackhawk or herbrand sockets where they were sold and what the warrenty is on them? yes herbrand (bought again at an auction). and here is my rant so read with your own caution. i was at craftsman with a 1/2 inch drive rachet assuming the gears inside stripped went to take it back and they gave me a rebuild kit for it. already tempers starting to flare when the pimple faced(you get the idea)(note im not against kids, some are very hard workers, everyone must get their start somewhere we were once that young etc, i realize that but..) anyways so that made me mad not that i cant take it apart and rebuild it but never had to before and dont want to start now. my temper already high cause it broke and have to drive 1/2 an hour etc but hey stuff happens. anyways then i had a 1/4 drive 13mm socket craftsman taht broke soj set that down and they gave me one that said craftsman but it also said ee and under that taiwan. i asked the kid and he said thats what we have for replacements.this made me mad enough to start yelling as my old one is made in the usa and i want to continue with that even if it costs me more. the kid then says it doesn"t matter it still has a lifetime warrenty well it matters to me. i finally went back to the shelf and found one that said made in usa and told them i wanted that one to which the kid agreed but does anyone know if they are all going to this (being built in taiwan) or they testing this out or what because if this does start to go to made in taiwan i guess i will have to go to mac or snap on but not to bash them i dont like their rachets because when they break the guy takes it back with him on the truck and tries to fix it.i want a new one now. also heard (dont know how true it is i hear alot) stanley bought out mac tools if so does anyone know waht that will mean as far as warrenty where made etc? also if someone tells me how to post a pic i can try to scan the socket because alot of people didnt believe me until they read it with their own eyes.

The CarQuest and NAPA stores in our area sell Blackhawk tools. I would hope they would warrenty them as well, but I don't know for sure. James

Mac Tools has been owned by Stanley since about 1980 so there should be little or no change regarding warranty issues. You could always check with a Mac dealer or Mac Tools' website for more specific warranty information.

Blackhawk handtools are also owned by Stanley. Check Stanley's website. Their sockets and flat wrenches are made in USA still. I don't know all the places you can buy them but I've recently bought some online from MSC Industrial Supply Company at MSC.com. Blackhawk wrenches come in both full polish and satin finish versions. It doesn't appear that MSC carries the full line of both types, however. I have some full polish versions and they appear to be very high quality wrenches.

Herbrand moved to Canada and was last made there and appears to be out of business. Up to two or three years ago they had a website but it has also disappeared. So for warranty purposes, there's no more warranty for a company that no longer exists.

I don't know the latest info about Craftsman as I seldom buy them now. However, I've seen "ee" Craftsman sockets before. I don't remember where they were made but they did appear to be lower quality than "regular" Craftsman sockets. I know they were not companion brand. As someone already said, Danaher makes most of Craftsman's sockets, ratchets and flat wrenches now. Danaher also makes many NAPA branded tools, the new style Kobalt tools (from Lowes) and owns Matco, Allen, Armstrong and K-D hand tools.

I CRS !!! Anyhow herbrad I saw was made in canada and craftsman hand tools are made by danaher tools at the present time. SOme of the sears "companion" tools are imports. I dont think they have the same warranty as craftsman tools.

I don't know who makes Blackhawk sockets, I got a few of them from my local autoparts store. If they break I have no doubt they will replace them without any problems.
However a good 90% of my tools are craftsmen, I have had great luck with them, the few I have had to replace they threw them in a box and told me to get a new one. I have never had problems with Sears/Craftsman. I am hard on tools but I'm satisfied with Craftsman 100%

Blankenship auto sold them but now blankenship is Federated Auto Parts, they sell them. Seems to me they are nationwide. Not sure tho. I think maybe the tiawan craftsman are their "Companion" brand series of tools.
