How to Replace Sprocket on Stihl 011 AVT Chainsaw

I'm repairing an older Stihl 011 AVT chainsaw for my Dad. He needs a new bar, sprocket and chain.

Question:

Trying to save a few bucks by replacing the sprocket myself. How do I change the sprocket? (see pictures below)

The clutch looks a bit different that what's in the owner's manual I have. Do I need special tools or should i just let the dealer replace it for me.

Hello Tyman,
That looks like a pretty good chain saw. You can get a socket to fit (if you don't have one) the sprocket. I got mine from Billous along with the sprocket, clutch drum, etc. Put a strap wrench on the flywheel to hold it and remove the sprocket. It should have left-handed threads on the crankshaft. The tool costs about $4.00 and will pay for it self.

Take the spark plug out, get some starter rope, put in the cylinder, don't need maybe 4-6 inches. Turn the crank so piston is locked by the rope. For some reason my computor is not loading your pictures, so I am gonna guess here. This should be a left hand thread, take a good sized punch and a decent size hammer, find a solid part on the clutch, put the punch there, smack it good with the hammer. May take a couple of time, but will come off. Just make sure you find a solid place on clutch or you will buy a new clutch to the tune of about 35-40 dollars.

It's simple to change sprockets on a saw, all you have to do is hold flywheel and take nut off sprocket. but make sure of threads they may be left handed.
