I have a old home built 3 point seed broadcaster that uses a 12 volt motor ( rather than the PTO )to fling the seed. The motor needs to be replaced and I have a 12 volt squirrel cage heater blower motor out of an old Chevy van that I could use. What do you think, will that work or will I just over rev the motor and burn it out?

Pete: I would be more concerned about over heat build up. Seems on some of the GM heaters, they had a small by pass hose that kept the motor cool, using some of the exhaust air from the blower. There should also been a resistor someplace in the old plenum. Motor is free so if you have time and it works, fuse it and try it.

Thanks,Mac. I'll look for the resistor and your right about their being a bypass hose. I think I'm going to end up smoking this motor from either the heat or the high speed, but like you said the motor is for free, so I'm going to give it a try.

You're out of my area of knowledge, but if you are afraid of overspeeding, could you add some sort of load to slow it down, like still having the fan on it?
