Source of hose reel swivels?

Would like to build my own garden hose reel. Any advice on where I could get the input hose swivel-maybe in 3/4 inch size?

Hi IaGuy,

Harbor Frieght sells a brass quick disconnects for garden hose that would swivel. You would need to use a set screw behind the collar to keep it from poping apart. Part #34870

If you have a drill press you could also make a swivel with a couple pipe nipples and "O" rings without too much trouble.

I got mine from Northern Tools, If I remember right it was less than $4.00. They also sell the whole reel. I got one. But wasn't happy with it, because the tension spring was too weak and it only held about 75 ft of hose. The swivels are with the air stuff. I also saw them at TSC.

Could you please explain how you can make a swivel out of a couple of pipe nipples and O-rings? Seems like it could be done with pipe union, but the nipples are throwing me.

Thanks for the suggestions. So far nothing found. What would you call the thing? Swivel, union? Every hose reel has the sationary input hose connection, then the rotary (sealed) swivel or union and then an outlet for the hose. Could be made in the shop with some time and patience. Just wanted to find somebody who is making them by the thousands and get one! Thanks for the suggestions.

I would call it a rotary joint.
you should be able to get one from surplus supply.

Full Time Swivel is what I would call it. A hydraulics shop will be able to get one. Maybe McMaster Carr. Don't know where to get an inexpensive one. A hydraulics shop should carry them for big $$$. They are also used on orchard spray rigs, high pressure washer hose reels and fuel and oil pump hose reels, fire trucks carpet cleaning trucks, etc.
