IndEstro and SpartA tools in reply to thejdman01, 09-20-2004 09:27:59
Indestro was a brand-name owned by Duro Metal Products of Chicago, which went out of business in the 1980's. Their guarantee died when Duro Metal Products died.

Sparta tools were made by the Hand Tool Division of New Britain Machine Company, which also went out of business in the 1980's. But there might be some good news for you in this one, because the Sparta brand was sold only by NAPA stores as a lower-priced alternative to the premium-quality New Britain brand. NAPA today honors the New Britain (brand) warranty by replacing broken New Britain tools with NAPA-brand tools. NAPA might be willing to replace broken Sparta tools also.

John

Right about Sparta/New Britain/ NAPA. A few years ago, I had a big Sparta Set of Channel-Lock type pliers that broke. NAPA store no longer had Sparta in stock, but he gave me a New Britain pair of pliers in exchange... Regards, Davis

J.C. Whitney used to sell the Indestro brand, but that was a while ago. I bought a set of 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive sockets and ratchets from them in about 1969. They have been used and abused on a regular basis and have not failed, in fact the 3/8 ratchet has held up better than my snap-on.

I have several Indestro and New Britain wrenches, sockets and ratchets. Of course they are all used but have done fine for me. Just yesterday I used a New Britain ratchet, and Plomb sockets to take a reclining chair apart.

There's just something about using old American made hand tools that makes a job more enjoyable. James
