New Forums

Kim is trying out new forum software that you can use now. After 30days Kim will let the members decide to keep the old forums or use the new forums.

On the left under "Community" click on "new Forums"

Try it out as it works pretty slick.

Be sure to play with the user profile edit function as you can change the forums to set-up like you want them.

• Is she indifferent on which message board software is used and is simply showing choices, or
  
• Does she have a preference of one package over the other? (Maybe the PHP option puts less of a load on her server(s) than the Perl option does?)

Kim likes this one as it's her "baby".

She just posted that she's thinking of upgrading this forum layout with some of the other forums features.

Kim also said she noticed the slower load time vs this one and she has the other one on a fast server.

I vote no. My browser doesn't handle style sheets or javascript. Keeps my computer virus free that way.

The current pages are nice with no cookies and simple for any old browser to use. The new code excludes me from using the pages.

Finally we found programs to get rid of this stuff, learned how to set session cookies and delete them. For the most part we avoid sites that require cookies, but when we do allow them we go in and get rid of them as soon as we close the window. It's tiresome doing it this way as well. I think if this site goes to requiring cookies, i will stop reading it.

All these scam attempts have made me decide not to post pictures of anything i own or disclose my address. Plus i tried to sell some things in the want ads and got several attempts from foreigners with the fake money order scheme, offering to send one for more than the asking price and you refund the dif, then when it bounces 3 weeks later, your out the item and the refund, and your bank account is frozen until you repay the bank. I pay my ISP for service and no one else needs to have my personal info and sell it for profit. Yikes.....is my opinion on cookies, and I'm taking a bigger view of it, than just a new page format.

What you might consider doing is upgrading to Win XP-home as it beats Win98 all to heII. Doesn't mean it's perfect and doesn't have a couple problems just means that it works 100% better than Win98.

What I noticed with XP since last December 03:

I don't get junk e-mail very often, in fact one piece in 9mths and yes I use cookies.

If something trys to change my registery file it can't!

If a sofeware program doesn't load correct, it's a 10min clean up with system restore and my puter is back to normal.

You set-up XP for a Admin (very simple to do) then set up a user for being on the internet or a firewall. If something glitchs the users program you delete the user program and start a new user but it doesn't effect Admin or another user on your puter.

Installing hardware or software is a breeze and glitch free.

Over all XP works they way Win98 was suppose to work but never did.

Draw backs to XP:

Some older sofeware programs doesn't work as well with XP, screen lines on a box maybe off a little.

For $500 bucks you can get a new puter with XP and some extra software and be almost 100% internet worry free.

Keep the old Win98 off line and use that with your older software. but if your like me you will quickly quit using the PITA Win98.
