Grouse CANNOT be raised in captivity. Many tried it, no one ever succeeded, which is why you will not find them for sale in an book, unless live trapped.

Hi Charles,

Something else I just thought of, most Fish&Game dept. have restricktions on what you can import to your State. Here in AZ all deer and elk, live or dead, are band as well as alot of fish. Have no idea about birds.

If you aren't up to catching your own stock, visit this website:.

I have ordered from this place before and found them to be responsive and extremely helpful on the phone.

Lots of good books on raising all kinds of birds ... even wild birds.

Hi CB,

You might want to research people who raise pheasnts/doves/pigeons as there simular. A old timer got his stock by using a piece 6" sprial pipe with a 1/4" screen on one end then used corn as the lure into the pipe.

Once the birds enter the spiral pipe there feathers catch on the pipe wall if they try to back out. He used this method for all birds including geese.

Old birds/animals will stop producing once caged. Raise your brood stock from chicks or young as it's much faster than trying to get mature stock to reproduce.
