Hi guys, I finally managed to find Ospho. I had posted this question on another forum, and it was suggested I try posting here.
Reading the instructions on the jug, it says it"s a primer. Yet, when I here about others use it, they prime over the phosphate coating... Any advice?
Also, what are your thoughts in regards to using this stuff in small (1 gal) gas tanks that are not shot out, but just surface rusted on the inside? (like for an old Briggs) Can I add a few ounces and slosh around, and pour out???
One of the first uses I"ll be doing is cleaning up some oxidized aluminum, and that seems pretty straight forward... But I"d love to learn more about the product, and hear what you guys have to say... Hoping for some tips and tricks...

Your local Do-It Best hardware store can order it for you,you may have to buy 4 gallons as that is the multiples it comes in.

I have phospheric acid by another brand name and have use some on a plant stand made from angle iron my wife is restoring. You can really tell where I have treated and not treated. Untreated has started to surface rust from moisture in the air. Phospheric acid is the active ingrediant in many gas tank treatments such as Kreem. If you do the gas tank, go to you local motorcycle shop and buy a can of Kreem liner coating. The kit that has it all but I think I've see the liner coating avaliable separately. The "rinse" (part 2) is acetone.

I first heard about Ospho when I lived on the coast of North Carolina. The commercial fisherman swear by it. It's great for removing rust stains from fiberglass or wooden boats. (Contrary to popular belief, stainless steel DOES rust, it just "stains less".)

I don't see any problem with using Ospho to clean out gas tanks. If the tank was in bad enough shape for Ospho to eat through it, you didn't want to use it anyway.

Ospho is a "primer", but it's not a paint. Whether or not you choose to prime after you treat the metal is up to you. Seems to me that more paint can't hurt.
