In putting new pads on my 2002 Pontiac Grand AM the caliper bolts came right out, but the bolts that hold the mounting bracket to the steering knuckle are seized and won't budge. This bracket has to be removed to remove the rotor. All of these parts are aluminum so heating with a torch is not an option. Any ideas appreciated.

Aply a LITTLE heat maybe with a small propane torch just to bring it up to a little hotter than comfortable to the touch. I beleive they are 18mm and you need a good 6 point socket and a 1/2 dr breaker bar. I have a 18mm impact flex socket but then I work on stuff like this stuff everday and sometimes twice on Sundays.

The bolts that I have take a 12mm socket. Thanks for all the info. I was leary of snapping the heads off the bolts.

Hi Jay,

No, if you are talking about the bolts that I think you are, they are not seized; they are just very, very tight. This is just the way they are.

I always had to use at least a 1/2" breaker bar on the dudes.
