I have a compressor pump which is supposed to be a Gilbarco according to the previous owner. It has numbers on a plate, model 308 26, 715856L, 3x1-3/4x2 -1/2. I saw posts from 2003 which might indicate it is a Quincy or other make. It has a 2 hp 1725 rpm motor, and runs fine. It gets a little behind my blast cabinet, and I am wondering if I can put a Harbor Freight 5 hp 3450 rpm motor on it to get more air. Does anyone know this? And anyone know what the max rpm is for this pump?

Thanks for any help,

Bill Narby

The smallest two stage pump listed on a Quincy dealer's site now is a 310, which goes from 1.5 - 3 hp, so I'd say your 308 is set up to put out as much as it can already. I think 308's haven't been made since the 1960's.

I doubt that you will help your capacity enough to warrant the risk of overspeeding the compressor. Look and see if it has a maximum rpm's listed on the plate or some where, I have an older Curtis compressor and the maxium r.p.m.'s on it is 950. Probably would need a higher cfm volume of output more so than faster compressor speed. This is based on my own experiences. LGD
