: : : Hi, : : While at an auction this past weekend, I purchased a Marquette Star Jet 21-100 combination torch handle, the cutting head attachment, and 4 welding tips. The numbers on the pieces are as follows: : : combination handle Star Jet 21-100 : : cutting headStar Jet GW 2-5-2 : : cutting tipGW 1 .... 3 (cannot read #'s between the 1 & 3) : : welding tipGW 2-4-1 : : welding tipGW 2-4-2 : : welding tipGW 2-4-3 : : welding tipGW 2-4-5 : : According to Marquette, this torch is about 14 -15 years old. : : There was no manual and Marquette does not have a manual nor any cutting or welding tips available for this torch. They did have replacement o-rings for the welding tips which I now have on order. : : If anyone knows of a source for the manual and/or replacement cutting and welding tips for this torch, I would appreciate any info. : : Or, if someone has a manual and would be willing to copy it and send the copy to me, I would gladly pay any copying and postage fees to get it. : : Since I am new to oxyacet cutting and welding, any info on what size cutting tips and welding tips should be used with this torch for various thicknesses of metal would also be appreciated. I doubt that I would ever go above 1/2" thick metal for anything that I would be cutting/welding. : : Perhaps someone could suggest a good book that covers the basics of oxyacet cutting/welding. I already have the Haynes Welding book and the Forney Welding Manual but would like something that may go into more detail. : : I have already checked into taking a Vo-Tech adult course concerning welding, but was shocked at the prices ($225 for the first course and $250 for the second). I will be talking to some local welders and perhaps they will show me the basics for less money. : : Any and all suggestions/infomation would be helpful and appreciated. : : Tnx : just play with it for a while Clyde is right. No substitute for experience. I took a welding class in school, about 1 hr lecture then turn you loose with a torch. Check your library for books, then get some scrap metal and (like Clyde says) play with it.
